"Do you give the horse its strength or clothe its neck with a flowing mane? Do you make him leap like a locust, striking terror with his proud snorting? He paws fiercely, rejoicing in his strength and charges into the fray. He laughs at fear, afraid of nothing, He does not shy away from the sword. The quiver rattles against his side, along with the flashing spear and lance. In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground. He cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds." -Job 39:19-24

Julie Zander of Brenham, Texas started showing horses with the ASPC/AMHR at the age of three in lead line and pet mini classes, attended her first AHMR Nationals at the age of seven, and first ASPC Congress at the age of eight. Her family operated breeding program, Bar Z Ranch, started before she was born with just a mini mare and stallion and has grown to be a major producer of Modern Shetland ponies. As a youth, Julie took pride in training her own horses and selling them for college money. Now attending Texas A&M to study Motor Behavior (Kinesiology Major and a Psychology Minor), she intends to use her kinesiology education to improve her training skills and her psychology minor to aid showmen in better communication with their horses and overcoming performance anxiety.

Though primarily involved with Shetlands and Miniatures, Julie has shown and handled Quarter Horses, Welsh Ponies, POAs, and Arabians. She competed in Texas State 4-H shows in: trail, western pleasure, western riding, horsemanship, english pleasure, huntseat equitation, huntseat versatility, working cow, stock horse pleasure, and futurity. With the 3 year old trained by herself, Julie went on to win the Texas State 4-H Futurity Reigning. Julie plans to register and show with the Pinto Horse Association in the future with the hopes of expanding both her client base and interest in the Shetland and Miniature breeds.

Julie has never counted her titles with the ASPC/AMHR, but is a multiple time National and Congress Champion and has numerous top tens in youth, amateur, and open classes as well as multiple time High Point Youth and Amateur.
